Windows 7 stucked update solution

I had a “small” issue for a week when I reinstalled my old windows 7 laptop.

It was all ok, except it did not want to install updates. Nor skype or similar things.

At first, I got errors in the c++ redistribution library. (Here is the solution, to install it follow the steps from below.)

After I installed it and I wanted to install Skype too I got an error that said it cannot find the installer application, so it cannot handle skype. Fine. I installed IE 11 because it includes all the necessary updates for Skype’s installer. (Here is the IE 11 installer)

The final big problem was how to enable windows to get updates. I tried several suggested solutions, but most of them didn’t work at all, or it stopped on checking windows updates on this computer (for the offline updates too). After a week I found the proper update that needed to be installed.

Steps:

1. Download the update: Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: February 2016
2. Restart your machine
3. Install the update
4. Restart your machine
5. Then you can force to start looking for updates straight away (it took me about 15 minutes to gather the new updates) or wait for your next scheduled update time. It should work.

The main problem was that Microsoft updated it’s own Windows Update Client, so freshly installed Windows 7 clients could not get the new updates with the old, original Update Client. Kind of weird thing. Microsoft at least should have left the new “Windows Update Client” update to be available for newly installed PCs.
